Hybrid Gift Holder

Posted by Juli under: Creative Inspiration

I came across this cute little holiday helper.  A hybrid gift holder.  The main part of this project is a cute little box that you can use to hold lots and lots of different things.  I used it as a hot cocoa holder for a teacher’s thank you gift – but trust me…this could be your holiday life saver!!!

Supplies:

Getting Fresh by Eva Kipler

White Light Weight and Cardstock weight paper

Colored cardstock to match project

Trimmer with scoring blade

Double stick tape

Hot cocoa packets

Scissors

Ribbon

Color Printer

Corner Rounder

High Backed Box Directions

1.      Prepare the back piece, accent wrap around, decorations and cocoa wrap around in your photo editing software using the following sizes .  Clip from your favorite papers and then paste on to one master 8.5×11” printing sheet.

Back piece –3 ¾” x 5 ¼”

Front Wrap Around – 2” x 8”

Cocoa Wrappers (4) – 1 ¼  x 8”

Optional – additional decorations (mine are the bird, text box for front of box and 4 circles for the front of the cocoa packets.)

Here is how my sheet was laid out so that all the non-optional pieces printed together on light weight paper.  I printed my optional pieces on cardstock to they would be a bit stronger.

 2.      Score your cardstock for folding and cutting.  Using a paper trimmer with a scoring blade turn your paper so the 8.5” side is going through the score/trim area.  Score at ¼”, 2 ¼”, 6 ¼” and 8 ¼”.  Turn paper so that 10” side is going through the score/trim area.  Trim off 1 inch from the end.  Then score at 5 ½” and 7 ½”.

Here is a picture of where all the score lines go – I’ve added pink pencil to the lines so they stand out.

3.      Cutting – starting at the 2 ¼” score line, cut up to the 5 ½” horizontal score line.  You will be removing a 2 ¼” x 5 ½” piece of cardstock.   Repeat step on the right side of the paper so it looks like this below.

4.      Use a corner rounder to round the back of the box you just created in step 3.

 5.      Fold the box as shown in the picture.  Apply back panel to inside of box as pictured.  Flip box over and apply the decorative front panel to the box as pictured.

6.      Assemble box using double stick tape.  Add your decorations to the front panel and it’s complete!

Cocoa Wrappers

  1. Cut a piece of color cardstock in to two 3 ¾” x 10” pieces.
  2. Score at 5” on the 10” side.
  3. On one of the smaller ends of the cut piece punch out ½ a 1 ½” circle.
  4. Fold the paper in half and insert cocoa packet inside.
  5. Wrap the cocoa wrapper around the packet and secure on the back.
  6. Decorate the front of the wrapper and add some ribbon to the top of the cocoa packet (I stapled on some yellow ribbon).
  7. Tuck your cocoa packets into the box and your ready to give your gift. The box will hold 4 packets of cocoa.
