Eva’s New Release for August 21, 2010:
Savannah Flea Market by Eva Kipler and ScrapKitchen Designs

I created this cute little note holder just so that I’d always have a piece of paper when I need it.  These would make super cute teacher gifts too!!!

Supplies:
Anything You Can Do digital kit by Eva Kipler
Kraft cardstock
Trimmer w/ cutting and scoring blade and scissors
Double stick tape, tape runner or glue stick
Ribbon
Blank paper or 2 3/4″ square notepad

1.  Create the base of the project by cutting a 7.5 inch square from the kraft cardstock. Score cardstock at 2 inches on all four sides.  Create the back panel of the holder by cutting a 3.5 inch wide by 5.5 inch tall piece of kraft cardstock.

2.  Using scissors, make vetical cuts on the scored line on all four sides to create a flap in each corner of the cardstock.  Guide below show in black where to score and in red where to cut AFTER you score.

3.  Fold in towards middle on each of the scored lines. Secure the flaps to the inside sides of the box using double stick tape.  Rotate so that the cut side is facing you.  Cut the rectangular notch out of the front panel of the bottom box after it is assembled so you get all the layers.  A punch would work really well here!

4.  Open your editting software and create a printing page.  Chose your favorite Eva kit to decorate your box.  The wrap around the bottom sides of the box is created using two rectangular pices.  The first being 11 inches long x 1.75 inches tall, the second is 3..5 inches long and 1.75 inches tall.  (This gives you room to trim your finished pieces to the size you wish).  For the back panel, create a rectangle that is 3 inches long by 4.5 inches tall.  Create a decorative pieces to place on your finished panel.  Print the decorative piece sheet and trim all pieces.

Here’s what my printing sheet looked like -(note: shadows are there so you can see the edges better, don’t shadow your decorative pieces.  It’s easier to trim without the shadow!)

5. Position the bottom box so that the cut side faces you.  Using the longest decorative strip, determine your desired width and trim.  Then wrap the piece around the box staring on the left side and going around the back and to the right side.  Use the short decorative piece to wrap the front (you wil need to hand cut the opening to match the opening in the bottom box front).  Trim the back panel piece to fit your panel as desired.  Add your decorative elements.  Round corners (optional) and then using double stick tape, adhere the back panel to the inside, back of your bottom box.

6.  Decorate with embellishments such a ribbons, buttons, flowers, etc.  Fill with cut pieces of note paper and you are done!

Have you ever made a layout with just one or two pictures of an event, only to realize later you left out a LOT of photos?  [ I do this a lot with design team assignments.  ]  In this entry I’ll show you an easy way to start with your beautifully designed original layout, switch it up a bit, and add more event photos for a matching second page.

This original layout uses Eva’s “Pay it Forward” kit, and is from a Build-A-Bear party we went to in the spring.  Two of my friend’s three daughters had March birthdays, so they had a combined party.  I figured for my scrapbook I should probably include close-ups of the birthday girls.  [And their other sister, for good measure.  ]

I always save a layered copy of my scrapbook layouts, because I never know when I might want to open one up as a jumping point for something new.  So I started by opening the original layout and saving a new copy to my desktop – this is so I don’t accidentally save over the original.  Then I deleted the text and photos, leaving the background papers and elements.

With my page base in place, I needed to decide on photo placement.  I clicked the eye icon next to each element (the stars and buttons) so I could hide them while I worked with structural details.  I decided to use the photo frames from the kit again, so I put a bunch on the new page and rearranged them until it made sense.  I modified a three-picture frame to be a two-picture frame for a better fit.  When I was happy with the frame placements, I clicked each element’s  eye icon again to un-hide them.

I tried to make the element arrangement different than the first page, but still balanced.  I ended up deleting some of the elements from the original page because they just didn’t fit.  (The extra star you see was a hidden element from the first page that I ended up not using.)  At this point my page looked like this:

It wasn’t until now that I started adding photos – that was actually the easiest part.    I knew I wanted a close up of all three girls, and I let whatever worked structurally with the frames determine how many other pictures I would add.  After inserting the photos, I slapped on a little text and I was done!

Here’s what the pages look like now as a two-page spread:
