Behind The Scenes – About Boho Chic Kit

Hey everyone, Majda here again. I think there’s a lovely story behind one of Eva’s gorgeous June kits, the Boho Chic, so I’m gonna share it with you. :)

It’s this kit, with awesome color palette and plenty of versatile elements:

It is quite often that Eva posts her work-in-progress in the CT forum so that the team could suggest elements etc. When she was working on this kit, it was the same. She also told us she was inspired by some fabric when doing this kit. Then someone (I think it was Sanna but am not sure :) ) posted this layout by Adriana (helenvader) in the thread saying that the dress on the photo could be the one inspiring this kit because it’s so similar. :)

Eva’s answer was quick and short: “It IS that dress!” :)

Adriana and her friend Zora (DeepGirl) love these fabric designs and love to wear it, and Zora sent a photo of it to Eva – and the result is this gorgeous kit. :) Here’s Zora’s two-pager sharing the story from her point of view:

There was one more funny point later, when the kit was finished and the CT started to post their pages in the forum. The first five layouts were with the same bg paper (the purple one, last in the first row). :) Eva’s reaction: “What’s up with that purple paper? I mean I know it’s awesome… but really?” LOL!

Digital scrapbooking is fun. :)

Have a great day everyone! :)

I am getting old….

I don’t often post anything on the blog about my personal life, but once in a while I feel the urge to share something with my fabulous blog readers.  Today (or actually since it is past midnight… technically yesterday) my oldest child, Alex, celebrated his birthday.  A big birthday for Alex… he turned 18 years old today. Where has time gone?  I have such vivid memories of holding him in my arms when he was an infant, and now 18 years has past and he is a man.

Just wanted to give a little shout out to my precious little boy (although he is now 6’4″ tall).  Happy Birthday, Alex. I love you!

Here are a few photos I took while he was unwrapping gifts.  Unfortunately, the battery on my good camera was dead so I had to use my point-and-shoot camera (and it appears that one of my lovely children have messed with the settings).  They aren’t the greatest photos, and the chances of Alex letting me take more photos of him is very slim.  LOL

Proud Mama…

This morning I am not a graphic designer, but a proud Mama.  My beautiful daughter Joy made the honor roll and the ceremony was this morning.  Both my husband and I attended the ceremony.  We are soooo very proud of our precious little Joy. Here is one of the photos that I took and thought I would share with y’all.  She is in 5th grade (10 years old).  Way to go, Joy!   Congratulations!

Honor Roll! Yay Joy!

Okay… back to designing now.  :)   I am hard at work on a new kit for this week!

A Different Perspective – Clip Me!

So often as digiscrappers we buy templates and tools to help us create our layouts but only use them on a few layouts here and there and then forget we have the product.  Today I want to challenge you to take a look at those tools you haven’t picked up in a while and use them in a different way.

Eva not only offers digital kits; she also has a great collection called Clip Me! that let’s you use squares, circles and scallops to add unique designs to your layouts.  It’s easy to look at these tools as simple clipping masks, however, with a little bit of creativity you can find new ways to use tools to add some spice to your memories.

Eva’s Clip Me! Round  Shapes
evak-clipme-main

Get creative like Leila – She used a circle to crop out the Clip Me! Round Shapes to use as an accent behind the photo.  What a great way to make a visual pop on any layout and super easy to do!

Eva’s Clip Me! Square  Shapes
ekipler-clipmesquare-prev

Cut it up!  Becky cut up the squares and arranged them around her page for more movement and visual interest.  With the ability to recolor or clip out of any paper this techinque has endless possibilities!

Looking for a way to fill up a background to give more visual focus to your photo? SmallMoments use the larger sized clipping mask as a background pattern.  By removing the middle part of the page your eye is naturally drawn in to the dynamic title work and the photo – again an easy way to mix things up!

So how are you going to mix things up?  Get out those not so often used Digiscrapping tools and try something new.

Photos to share… still on vacation

I am still on vacation in Santa Fe visiting my parents and really enjoying myself. I thought I would share a few photos that my Mama has taken since my arrival. I have taken a ton, but at the moment I am not able to get them off of the memory card. My Mama’s printer doesn’t take my size cartridge. I may just take them to Kinkos and have them move them from my memory card onto my thumb/flash drive.

Here are a few photos from the Special Shapes Ascension at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.  These were taken on October 7, 2009.

Fabulous Charity Collaboritive Kit (profits going to the Autism Society of America)

My Big Adventure

I have had the honor of working with some of the best designers in the digital scrapbooking community on a new charity collaboriate mega kit!  This kit turned out every better than I expected.  There are so many fantastic and unique elements and papers that you could literally scrap any subject/theme at all with this kit!

Here are the wonderful designers who contibuted to this fabulous collaborate charity kit: Amy Stoffel, AmyM Designs, Armina Designs, Artistic Leanings, Baers Garten, Beth Rimmer, Chaos Lounge, Cinnamon Designs, Color with Caryn, Danielle Engebretson, Designs By Hutchie, Digi Overdose, Dreams’ Pieces, Edeline Designs, Emily Merritt, Eva Kipler, Faith True, Flergs, FruitLoOp Sally, Gina Miller, Heather Hill, Jen Balding, Kelleigh Ratzlaff, Kitty Designs, Krystal Hartley, Leah Farquharson, Newlife Dreams, Pamela Donnis, Raechel Knight, Shabby Princess, Smooth Sailing, Steel City Scraps, Studio Arisu, SweetMade, Traci Murphy, Valorie Brown, Vonniesdigiworld, Wendy Page, and Miss Tiina.

If you are familiar with me and/or my work you know that I rarely contribute to “charity” kits.  I only consider doing them if I know who is involved and I am confident that the money will indeed end up going to the charity.  Not only do I have the utmost respect for Miss Tiina, I know how hard she has worked to organize this fundraiser.  Tina has been an active (and very popular) designer in our community for years.  I have personally worked with her and have found her to be very honest and trustworthy.  All of the profits will be going to the Autism Society of America.

Here are a couple of previews for you.  You will find MANY more in the store.  Check out “My Big Adventure” Kit and QuickPage Album at  Miss Tiina’s personal store by  CLICKING HERE

mybigadventure-charitykit

If you are into QuickPages, there is also a STUNNING album available for purchase.  I am simply blown away by both the kit as well as the QuickPages.  Not only are they are great deal, but you know that your money is going to a great cause).

Hybrid Quickie

It’s CT member Juli here with a down and dirty, quick and easy, make yourself look so crafty hybrid project…just in time for back to school.  Our project today is an acrylic post -it note holder. All you need is a simple acrylic stand up frame, a great digital kit, and some post-it notes.  This is a super simple project that you can dress-up however you’d like.

Hybrid Acrylic Post-It Note Holder
Supplies:
Viva La Diva by Eva Kipler (Sweet Shoppe)
White Cardstock
5 x 7 Acrylic Photo Frame (Target)
3 x 3 post it notes
Paper Trimmer

  1. Create a 5×7 canvas in your photo editting software.
  2. Design your post it holder making sure to create a 3.5”x 3.5”  square area to place your post-it notes.  Customize and decorate to match your décor or theme.
  3. Print design on white cardstock using a color printer.
  4. Slide your artwork into the frame.
  5. Stick the post-it notes on to the acrylic frame over the square you create.

Be creative!  You could easily add a small calendar to your design to stick on the outside of the acrylic OR design a sheet for each month with a calendar on it plus a place for your sticky notes.  What an awesome teacher’s gift or co-work gift (I know what I’m making for my co-worker’s for Christmas now!)

If you give this project a try please link me up in the comments so I can come give you some love!

Introducing Eva’s Hybrid Girls

We’ve recently added some new hybrid girls to the team at Eva Kipler Designs.  Hybrid scrapping and papercrafting is a combination of digital and traditional scrapping products and is gaining in popularity.  We now have three very talented hybrid papercrafters on the team.

Kelleigh Ratzlaff (Kelleigh R) is a talented digital and paper scrapper, she loves to combine both and create beautiful paper crafted products.  Kelleigh started scrapbooking the old fashioned way in 2003 when her first child was born and discovered digital in October 2007, doing a Jessica Sprague class.  Kelleigh continues to teach paper scrapbooking classes and collects as many physical supplies as digital.  When creating hybrid projects Kelleigh loves to make things she will actually use – cards, gift boxes, pretty home decor items, mini albums etc.  although she admits to just enjoying looking at what she has created and finds it hard to give them away!

***************************

Jenni Shawyer (Juniper) is a new chick on the digi block.  She has a fantastic blog where she shares her creations and is the second new hybrid girlie to join the team.  Jenni lives in the UK, is married and has two darling little boys and assorted pets!  She has been crafting since a child but started crafting in earnest 10 years ago, Jenni has always loved computers so combining her two favourite hobbies is great! Hybrid crafting appeals to Jenni because of how bespoke it is… How cost effective it is and just how much shopping there is too!!!!  Check out Jenni’s creations on her blog and watch out for her creations using Eva’s products in the Sweet Shoppe gallery

***************************

Andrea Gourley (Geordie Girl) has been a member of Eva’s team for a little while now.  She loves to create cards for all purposes and discovered digital kits about 18 months ago.  Andrea combines digi papers and elements with traditional ribbon, buttons and flowers etc. and Eva’s designs are a perfect vehicle for her funky cards.  You can check out Andrea’s gallery at Sweet Shoppe Designs and also at her blog.  When she’s not playing with paper, Andrea teaches full time, loves to shop, eat chocolate and watch disaster movies as well as spending time playing with her new puppy.

Come meet some of the team!!

Sara here to intro half of Eva’s team to you and later this month, you’ll get to meet the rest of us!!

We’ll start today with Angie.

I’m Angie and I’m a crazy old lady. Or maybe just crazy. I’m a 38 (ok ya old too) year old mom of 5 *ahem* angels ages 16-4. I dabble in photography on the side (side of what, no one knows), in addition to my involvement in the digital scrapping world. I have a fabulous husband who tolerates me and all of my wild hairs of both the literal and figurative variety. My skills including feeding a family of 7 carryout every night for under $30 a pop, ignoring dirty dishes and TiVOing things I never watch.
I asked Angie to share her favorite Eva layout with us:

Next, here is Claudia

I’m Claudia and I have been digiscrapping for almost 3 years now. My husband and I have been together for over 9 years now and we have three sons. Bryan will be 6 in April, Jordan will be 4 in April and Diego is 2 months old. I work in Human Resources and enjoy my job very much although I am enjoying staying home now due to the new baby! I’ve been on Eva’s team for quite some time now and enjoy working with all her kits. Most of my pages have Spanish journaling because it’s very important to me that my kids and future generations don’t lose the language. I love taking pictures and pretty much always have my camera with me.
And Claudia’s favorite layout:

Next up is Deena

Hi I’m Deena, I am happily married to a wonderful man, we have a well blended family 3 of mine, 1 of his, and 1 ours. I will soon be the mom to 2 teenagers, with my oldest turning 16 this year, and my oldest daughter turning 13. I have an 8yr old son with Spina Bifida, and a gorgeous 4yr old curly headed daughter as well. I have been digital scrapping since 2005, and was instantly hooked. I was never a paper scrapper though. I have been using Eva’s designs almost as long as I have been scrapping, as my first digi home was The Digi Chick. I have been on Eva’s team since shortly after she joined Sweet Shoppe Designs. I just missed her too much when she left The Digi Chick!
And a layout from Deena:

Next up, Jadelyn

My name is Jadelyn Alvarez. I am have been happily married for 12 years this month. I have two adorable kiddos who are my main scrapping/photography targets. One enjoys it, the other tolerates it. I have been digiscrapping since July of 2006 and have been with Eva just about that long. I am addicted to it. I love Eva’s designs – they are lots of fun to work with. My favorite layout using Eva’s products right now is http://www.sweetshoppecommunity.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=75290&ppuser=187. I made it for an ADSR Challenge. I just might have to frame it up and put it up in my house! LOL!! Other than scrapping I enjoy hanging out with my family and friends – just doing whatever – movies, tv, game night, etc.

Let’s meet Becky:

I am a stay at home mom to the sweetest, cutest, busiest twin 3 year old boys one has ever met!! I have been completely addicted to digital scrapbooking and telling the stories of our family for about a year and a half now. I live in Oklahoma, but spent 2 1/2 years living in France which is where our boys were born! Other than scrapping, I enjoy cooking, reading cookbooks, and drinking really good coffee!
And here’s a layout from Becky:

Next up, I’d like to introduce two of our new girls.

Jennifer:

I am a 29 year old SAHM with 2 children. My son is 5 and my daughter is 3. I live in North Carolina with my husband of nearly 8 years. I love to scrap (both digi and paper!), read, shop, garden, and take yoga classes. I’m a teaching dropout who decided I’d rather play with my kids all day than teach in a classroom–and I’m loving SAHM-hood!

And last for today, we have Amy

Amy’s a 37 yr old momma to two boys ages 4.5 and 22 months. She lives in Arizona with her husband of 5 years. She’s been digital scrap-booking for less than a year, but she was a paper scrapper for over a decade! On top of that she loves to cook, hike, read, paint and draw and play with her kiddos.

Hope you’ve enjoyed these quick little peeks into our team member’s lives!!  Jennifer will be back on the 18th to introduce you to the rest of our fabulous team!!
